Transatel Joins the 5G Automotive Association to Advance “Software-Defined Mobility”

Paris, July 08, 2026 – Transatel, an NTT company and a global provider of cellular connectivity solutions, today announced that it has joined the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA), the global cross-industry organization bringing together companies from the automotive, technology, and telecommunications sectors to develop end-to-end solutions for future mobility and transportation services.

Transatel joins 5GAA at a decisive moment for the automotive industry. As vehicles become software-defined platforms, connectivity is evolving from a telecom service into a strategic infrastructure layer. Over-the-air updates, remote diagnostics, emergency services, fleet monitoring, remote control functions, and V2X-enabled mobility all depend on secure, resilient, and globally orchestrated connectivity across the full vehicle lifecycle.

As part of NTT, Transatel brings global infrastructure, telecom expertise, and proven automotive connectivity experience to the 5GAA ecosystem. Since 2017, the company supports international connected-vehicle programs (Stellantis, JLR, BMW Group, Toyota, …) through multi-operator cellular connectivity, remote SIM provisioning, eSIM profile management, 5G Standalone readiness, Wi-Fi offload, private network integration, NTN satellite connectivity, and advanced connectivity management capabilities.

“Connectivity is no longer an add-on. It is the foundation that allows software-defined vehicles to evolve throughout their lifecycle,” said Jacques Bonifay, CEO of Transatel. “By joining 5GAA, Transatel is reinforcing its commitment to industry collaboration and helping shape the resilient, global, and future-proof connectivity layer next-generation mobility requires.”

“We welcome Transatel to 5GAA at a pivotal moment for the connected mobility industry. Their expertise in global connectivity will strengthen our work to advance secure and scalable solutions worldwide”, said Christoph Voigt, 5GAA Chairman.

Through its participation in 5GAA, Transatel will contribute its expertise in global cellular connectivity, eSIM lifecycle management, multi-network orchestration, and automotive connectivity operations. The company aims to support OEMs and mobility stakeholders as they prepare for the transition toward 5G Standalone, V2X-enabled services, satellite and non-terrestrial network integration, Wi-Fi offload, private 5G environments, and future 6G mobility use cases.

By joining 5GAA, Transatel strengthens its role in the connected mobility ecosystem and confirms its commitment to open collaboration, global standards, and the development of secure, scalable, and continuously connected software-defined vehicles.
