Microsoft is testing a cellular data app that lets Windows 10 devices connect to various mobile network operators without a contract. The Verge first reported that the app was published on the company’s Windows Store. Microsoft has not yet announced its plans for the service.
The app is designed to work on Windows 10 and requires a “Microsoft SIM card”, according to the store listing. Microsoft is planning to sell service plans through the Windows Store, so the data will be tied to a Microsoft Account. The company recently signed an agreement with MVNO Transatel, a provider of mobile roaming services in multiple countries, to provide cellular access for Windows products.
